Repairs and Inspections Required After A CollisionHorn Button Assembly
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.
- Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in the connectors.
- Deformation of the steering wheel assembly.
- The deformation of the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly.
HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly is deformed, never repair it.Always replace the horn button assembly with a new one.
- There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel assembly.
CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the horn button assembly, see "Replacement", and be sure to follow the correct procedure.
Instrument Panel Airbag Assembly Lower No.1
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instrument panel airbag assembly lower No.1 installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel finish panel sub-assembly lower around the instrument panel airbag assembly lower No.1.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instrument panel airbag assembly lower No.1 removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel airbag assembly lower No.1.
- Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in connectors.
Instrument Panel Airbag Assembly Lower No.2
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel around the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly.
- Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in connectors.
- Deformation or cracks on the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement.
HINT: If the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement is deformed or cracked, never repair it.Always replace it with a new one.
CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the instr pnl pass l/door airbag assembly, see "Replacement", and be sure to follow the correct procedure.
Front Seat Airbag Assembly
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat back assembly around the front seat airbag assembly.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat airbag assembly.
- Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in the connectors.
Curtain Shield Airbag Assembly
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the curtain shield airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front pillar garnish and roof headlining assembly around the curtain shield airbag assembly.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Do a visual check which includes the following items with the curtain shield airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the curtain shield airbag assembly.
- Cuts and cracks in wire harness, and chipping in the connectors.
Occupant Classification ECU
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

b. Do a visual check for damage to the occupant classification ECU, which includes the following items even if the airbag was not deployed:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector
Wire Harness and Connector
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. Check for breaks in all wires of the SRS wire harness, and exposed conductors.
c. Check to see if the SRS wire harness connectors are cracked or chipped.
HINT: The SRS wire harness is integrated with the engine room main wire, instrument panel wire, instrument panel wire No.2, floor wire, floor wire No.2 and roof wire No.2.
Airbag Sensor Assembly Center
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

a. Replace the airbag sensor assembly center.
Airbag Sensor Rear
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. When the quarter panel of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag sensor rear. if there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the airbag sensor rear with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the airbag sensor rear.
Side Airbag Sensor
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Do a diagnostic system check.
b. When the center pillar of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor.If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.
Front Airbag Sensor

- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION

b. When the headlamp of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag front sensor.If there are any defects as mentioned below, replace the airbag front sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks, dents, chips and scratches in the connector
- Peeling off of the label or damage to the serial number
VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the airbag front sensor assembly.
Seat Position Airbag Sensor
CAUTION: Be sure to perform the initialization of the occupant classification ECU under the conditions listed below.If the initialization is not performed, the SRS may not operate properly.
- The occupant classification ECU is replaced.
- Accessories (seatback tray or seat cover, etc.) are installed to the vehicle.
- The passenger seat is removed from the vehicle.
- The SRS warning light comes on.
- The vehicle is brought to the work shop for repair purpose due to the accident or collision.
VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
