REAR BRAKE

REMOVAL

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed below are for the side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

NOTICE: Wash brake fluid off immediately if it adheres to any painted surface.





3. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD KIT
a. Remove the pin hold clip and disengage the engaged parts of anti-squeal spring.
b. Remove the 2 pad guide pins and anti-squeal spring.
c. Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.

4. REMOVE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT REAR
a. Remove the 4 anti-squeal shims from each pad.





5. DISCONNECT REAR LH FLEXIBLE HOSE
a. Remove the union bolt and gasket from the disc brake cylinder assembly rear, then disconnect the flexible hose.





6. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SUPPORT NO.1 PIN
a. Remove the cylinder support pin No.1 and tilt the disc brake cylinder assembly toward the rear of the vehicle.

7. REMOVE DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY REAR LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and cylinder assembly rear together with the caliper support bracket.
b. Remove the 2 caliper plate No.1 from the caliper support bracket.

DISASSEMBLY





1. REMOVE CALIPER SUPPORT BRACKET
a. Remove the caliper support bracket from the cylinder assembly rear.

2. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSH
a. Remove the cylinder slide bush from the cylinder assembly rear.

3. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT
a. Remove the bush dust boot from the cylinder assembly rear.





4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON
a. Place a shop rag or a piece of cloth between the piston and the cylinder assembly rear.
b. Use compressed air to remove the piston from the cylinder assembly rear.

CAUTION: Do not place your fingers in front of the brake piston when using compressed air.

NOTICE: Do not spatter the brake fluid.

5. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT
a. Remove the cylinder boot from the piston or cylinder assembly rear.





6. REMOVE PISTON SEAL
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the piston seal from the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Do not damage the inner cylinder and the cylinder groove.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before using.

7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP
8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG





9. REMOVE REAR DISC
a. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.
b. Remove the read disc.

10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

REASSEMBLY





1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG
2. INSTALL REAR DISC
a. Aligning the matchmarks, install the rear disc.

HINT: When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has the minimum runout.

3. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG
5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP





6. INSTALL PISTON SEAL
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new piston seal.
b. Install the piston seal to the cylinder assembly rear.

7. INSTALL CYLINDER BOOT
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston and a new cylinder boot.
b. Install the cylinder boot to the piston as shown in the illustration.





8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON
a. Install the cylinder boot to the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Install the boot securely to the grooves of the cylinder.

b. Push in the piston by hand and install the boot seal onto the grooves of the piston.

NOTICE: Install the boot securely to the grooves of the piston.





9. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSH
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new cylinder slide bush.
b. Install the cylinder slide bush to the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Install the cylinder slide bush securely to the grooves of the cylinder assembly rear.





10. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE BUSH DUST BOOT
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new bush dust boot.
b. Install the bush dust boot to the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Install the bush dust boot securely to the grooves of the cylinder assembly rear.





11. INSTALL CALIPER SUPPORT BRACKET
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the caliper support bracket.
b. Install the caliper support bracket to the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Install the bush dust boot securely to the grooves of the caliper support bracket.

INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY REAR LH
a. Install 2 new caliper plate No.1 to the caliper support bracket.
b. Install the cylinder assembly rear together with the caliper support bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.)





2. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SUPPORT PIN NO.1
a. Install the cylinder assembly rear with the cylinder slide pin.
Torque: 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)





3. INSTALL ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT REAR (for 3UZ-FE)
a. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 antisqueal shims.
b. Install the 4 anti-squeal shims to each of the 2 brake pads.

NOTICE:
^ When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
^ Install the anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.





4. INSTALL ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT REAR (for 3GR FSE)
a. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 antisqueal shim No.1.
b. Install the 4 anti-squeal shims to each of the 2 brake pads.

NOTICE:
^ When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
^ Install the anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.





5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD KIT
a. Install the 2 brake pads to the cylinder assembly rear.
b. Install the 2 pad guide pins, anti-squeal spring and pin hold clip as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Make sure that the engaged parts of the anti squeal spring are installed correctly.





6. CONNECT REAR LH FLEXIBLE HOSE
a. Connect the flexible hose with the union bolt and a new gasket.
Torque: 30 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Install the flexible hose lock securely in the lock hole in the disc brake cylinder assembly rear.

7. DISABLE BRAKE CONTROL (w/ECB)
8. ADD RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID (w/VSC)
9. ADD RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID (w/ECB)
10. BLEED BRAKE LINE (w/VSC)
11. BLEED REAR BRAKE SYSTEM (w/ECB)
12. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL (w/ECB)
13. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL (w/VSC)
14. CHECK AND CLEAR DTC
15. CHECK AND CLEAR DTC
16. INSPECT CHECK BRAKE LEAKAGE
17. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
