Transmission Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

SPEED SENSOR

Components:






REMOVAL





1. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER SENSOR
a. Disconnect the sensor connector.





b. Remove the bolt and the sensor.
c. Remove the clip and the driven gear from the sensor.
d. Remove the O-ring from the sensor.





2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NT) AND (SP2)
a. Disconnect the sensor connectors.
b. Remove the 2 bolts, revolution sensor (SP2) and (NT).





c. Remove the 2 O-rings from the revolution sensor (SP2) and (NT).

INSPECTION





1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NT)
a. Disconnect the sensor connector from the transmission.
b. Measure the resistance of the sensor.

Standard Resistance:








2. INSPECT TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (SP2)
a. Disconnect the sensor connector from the transmission.
b. Measure the resistance of the sensor.

Standard Resistance:





INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL SPEEDOMETER SENSOR
a. Insert the speedometer driven gear in the speedometer sensor with the clip.
b. Coat a new O-ring with ATF.
c. Install the O-ring to the speedometer driven gear assembly.
d. Install the sensor with the bolt.
Torque: 16 Nm (160 kgf-cm, 12 ft. lbs.)





e. Connect the sensor connector.





2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR (NT) AND VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (SP2)
a. Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF and install them to the revolution sensor (SP2) and (NT).





b. Install the revolution sensor (SP2) and (NT) with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)
c. Connect the sensor connectors.
