ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. CHECK TRANSFER OIL





(a) Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the filler plug and gasket.





(b) Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the filler plug hole.
If the result is not as specified, add transfer oil.
- Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
- Keep the vehicle level during inspection.

(c) If addition of transfer oil is necessary, perform the following procedures.
(1) Add oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.197 in.) from the bottom lip of the case plug (for filler) hole.
Oil grade:
Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LX 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent
Standard capacity
0.7 liters (0.7 US qts, 0.6 Imp. qts)
(d) When the oil level is too low, check for an oil leak.
(e) Install a new gasket into the filler plug and then install the plug with a 10 mm hexagon wrench.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft-lbf)
