MARK VI & 1982---88 TOWN CAR
Always replace control arms in pairs. Therefore, if one arm requires replacement, replace the same arm on the opposite side of vehicle. Also, if both upper and lower control arms are to be removed at the same time, first remove both coil springs.
1. Raise vehicle and support at frame side rails with jack stands.
2. If removing lower control arm, disconnect stabilizer bar from arm (if equipped).
3. With shock absorbers fully extended, support axle under differential pinion nose and under axle. If removing upper arm, disconnect parking brake cable from retainer.
4. Remove pivot bolts and nuts from axle and frame brackets, Fig. 2.
5. Remove control arm from vehicle.
6. Reverse procedure to install. Torque lower arm to axle bracket pivot bolt to 118 ft. lbs. and lower arm to frame pivot bolt to 135 ft. lbs.
