Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

LH Front Master Switch (4 Door)

Test Procedure

Testing the power window master switch should be performed with the switch removed from the vehicle. Use a self-powered test lamp or an ohmmeter.

1. Clip one test lead probe on pin 3 which is grounded.
2. With all switches in the NEUTRAL position, pins 4 through 11 should have continuity to pin 3.
3. Push any one or all four window switches forward and hold in that position (toward front of vehicle when in installed position).
All odd numbered pins of the switch(es) pushed forward should lose continuity to pin 3.
4. Push any or all four window switches rearward and hold in that position (toward rear of vehicle when in installed position).
All even numbered pins (4 through 10) of the switch(es) pushed rearward should lose continuity to pin 3.
5. Remove the test lead from pin 3 and connect it to pin 2 (hot feed pin).
With all switches in the NEUTRAL position, only pin 1 should have continuity to pin 2.
6. Push any one or all four switches forward and hold in that position.
All odd numbered pins of switches pushed forward should have continuity to pin 2.
7. Pull any one or all four switches rearward and hold in that position.
All even numbered pins of switches pulled rearward should have continuity to pin 2.
8. If any switch does not test as stated, replace the complete switch assembly.
