Electronic Brake Control Module: Description and Operation

The electronic controller consists of two microprocessors and the necessary circuitry for their operation. The controller is a self-contained, non-repairable unit which monitors system operation during normal driving as well as during anti-lock braking. Under normal driving conditions, the microprocessors transmit short test pulses to the solenoid valves to check the electrical system. Under wheel lock conditions, the controller produces signals to open and close the appropriate solenoid valves and open the main valve which supplies pressure to a reaction sleeve. During anti-lock braking, moderate pulsation in the brake pedal are accompanied by a change in pedal height. Most failures which occur to the system will be stored as a code in the controllers constant memory.
