Non-Functional

Removal

1. Disable airbag system as described under Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair/Airbag System Disarming.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove steering wheel.
4. Remove three trim shroud attaching screws, then the two trim shrouds.
5. Disconnect key warning switch electrical connector.
6. Using a 1/8 inch drill, drill out retaining pin. Do not drill deeper than 1/2 inch.
7. Place a chisel at base of ignition lock cylinder cap, then strike chisel with sharp blows to break cap away from cylinder.
8. Using a 3/8 inch drill, drill down middle of ignition lock key slot 1-3/4 inches, until lock cylinder breaks loose from breakaway base of lock cylinder.
9. Remove lock cylinder and drill shavings from lock cylinder housing.
10. Remove retainer, washer, ignition switch and actuator, then clean all drill shavings from casting.
11. Inspect lock cylinder housing, if any damage is present, replace housing.

Installation

1. Install actuator and ignition switch.
2. Install trim and electrical parts.
3. Install new ignition lock cylinder.
4. Install steering wheel.
5. Ensure lock operates properly.
6. Rearm airbag as described under Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair/Airbag System Disarming.
