MESSAGE CENTER - "CHECK RIDE CONTROL"
DISPLAYED - DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC)
C1873 AND/OR C1877

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995-96 CONTINENTAL

ISSUE:
A "Check Ride Control" displayed on the message center, along with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) C1873 and/or C1877, may occur on some vehicles. This may be caused by a break, due to normal flexing during driving, in the wiring to the front air spring vent solenoids.

ACTION:
Replace failed wiring with an Air Suspension Jumper Kit. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Retrieve any DTCs with the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester as described in the appropriate year Continental Service Manual, Section 04-05. If any DTCs other than C1873 or C1877 are present, follow normal diagnostic procedure.

2. If either DTC C1873 (right front solenoid circuit) or C1877 (left front solenoid circuit) are present:

a. Disconnect the harness connector at the respective solenoid.

b. Use a volt/ohmmeter to measure the resistance across the terminals of the solenoid.

c. If the solenoid resistance is greater or less than 14-18 ohms, replace the Air Spring Vent Solenoid (F50Z-5311-DA) and verify that the concern has been resolved.

NOTE:
DO NOT REPLACE SOLENOID UNLESS IT FAILS THIS TEST. THE HARNESS FAILURE DOES NOT CONTRIBUTE TO SOLENOID FAILURE.

NOTE:
THE INSTRUCTION SHEET PACKAGED WITH SOME OF THE AIR SUSPENSION JUMPER KITS (F7OZ-3C227-AA) INDICATES THE NEED TO REMOVE THE WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR FOR ACCESS TO THE HARNESS. PLEASE DISREGARD THIS STEP.

d. If the solenoid resistance is between 14-18 ohms, replace the existing wiring to the solenoids with the new Air Suspension Jumper Kit (F7OZ-3C227-AA).

NOTE:
IF ONLY ONE CODE IS PRESENT AND THE JUMPER HARNESS IS BEING INSTALLED, ALSO INSTALL THE JUMPER HARNESS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE.

3. If jumper harness is being installed on one side, be sure to install the jumper harness on the opposite side of the vehicle.

The Air Suspension Jumper Kit (F7OZ-3C227-AA) contains the following:

^ One (1) Solenoid Jumper Harness/Connector (Right Side)

^ One (1) Solenoid Jumper Harness/Connector (Left Side)

^ One (1) Instruction Sheet (I.S. 7213)
