XB87 - Check A/C Circuits For Intermittent Opens



- Key "OFF".

- Disconnect A/C clutch. Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary.

- Connect a test lamp between the power-to-A/C clutch and A/C clutch ground circuits at the A/C clutch vehicle harness connector.

- Start engine.

- A/C "ON".

CAUTION: While performing this test, do not touch any moving/hot engine parts.

- Observe test lamp for an indication of a fault while performing the following (the lamp will go out when a fault is detected, indicating an open circuit):

- Shake, wiggle, bend the power-to-A/C clutch, A/C clutch ground and Variable Control Relay Module (VCRM) A/C ground circuits.

- Lightly tap on the VCRM (to simulate road shock).

- Key "OFF", A/C "OFF".

- Is a fault indicated?

Yes -- Isolate fault and service as necessary. Reconnect all components. Rerun quick test. Quick Test Appendix (Detailed Testing Instructions)

No -- Disconnect VCRM. Inspect for damaged or pushed out pins, corrosion, loose wires, etc. Service as necessary. If OK, unable to isolate fault at this time. Reconnect all components. For further diagnosis using the EEC-IV Monitor Box or Scan Tool, go to Normal Scan Data Values. For further diagnosis of this, or any other symptom, return to Diagnostic Routines.
