Subframe: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).







2. Prepare the engine compartment to install the Engine Lifting Adapter Set.
1. Remove the coolant by-pass hose.
2. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (6A666) from the valve cover (6582).
3. Remove the radiator upper sight shield (8C291).







3. Install the LH engine lifting eye.







4. Install the RH engine lifting eye.







5. Install the special tools.
6. Raise the vehicle.







7. Remove the lower radiator air deflector (8311).
8. Remove the front tires and wheels.
9. Disconnect the LH and RH outer tie rod ends (3A130) from the front wheel knuckles (3K185).
10. Remove the dual converter Y pipe (5F250).







11. For vehicles equipped with semi-active drive control, disconnect the air suspension height sensor lower clip.







12. Remove the nut.







13. CAUTION: Use extreme care not to damage the boot seal. Do not use power tools to remove the nut or bearing and seal damage can result.

Loosen the nut. Remove the nut from the stud using the hex-hold feature. Position the front stabilizer bar (5482) out of the way.







14. Remove the bolts.







15. Remove the nuts.







16. Remove the bolt.







17. Remove the bolts.
18. Support the front subframe (5C145) with a suitable lift.







19. Remove the four subframe mounting bolts.







20. CAUTION: Do not allow the engine and transmission assembly to shift during subframe removal. Shifting could damage unseen engine compartment components.

Lower the front subframe from the vehicle.







21. Install the special tool.
22. Transfer the suspension components to the new front subframe.

Installation







1. Remove the special tool.







2. Using a suitable lift, raise and support the front subframe in place.







3. Install the bolts.







4. Install the bolts.







5. Install the bolt.







6. Install the nuts.







7. Install the bolts.







8. Install the nut.







9. CAUTION: Use extreme care not to damage the boot seal. Do not use power tools to tighten the nut or bearing and seal damage can result.

Install the nut using the hex-hold feature to prevent the stud from rotating.







10. For vehicles equipped with semi-active drive control, install the air suspension height sensor lower clip.
11. Connect the dual converter Y pipe.
12. Connect the LH and RH outer tie rod ends and the front wheel knuckles.
13. Install the front tires and wheels.







14. Install the lower radiator air deflector.
15. Lower the vehicle.







16. Remove the special tools.







17. Remove the Engine Lifting Adapter Set and install the removed components.
1 Install the coolant bypass hose.
2 Install the positive crankcase ventilation valve to the valve cover.
3 Install the radiator upper sight shield.

18. Connect the battery ground cable.
19. Check the wheel alignment.
