Removal
1. Remove the air cleaner and outlet tube.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Discharge the air conditioning (A/C) system.
4. Remove the lower intake manifold.
5. Remove the radiator.
6. Remove the generator.
7. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube from the exhaust manifold.
8. Remove the bolts retaining the transmission to the engine.
9. Disconnect the bulkhead connectors.
10. Disconnect the degas return hose.
11. Remove the nut and reposition the A/C muffler.
12. Disconnect the lower radiator hose.
13. Remove the nuts and the hose support (if equipped).
14. Raise and support the vehicle.
15. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) sensor.
16. NOTE: The power steering pump can be supported with mechanic's wire to keep it from hindering the removal process.
Remove the bolts and position the power steering pump out of the way.
17. Remove the nut and the transmission cooler lines from the front cover.
18. Remove the starter.
19. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
20. Remove the RH inner fender well.
21. Disconnect the right and the left heated oxygen sensor (H02S).
22. Disconnect the pipes at the exhaust manifold.
23. Remove the bolt from the LH motor mount.
24. Remove the bolt from the RH motor mount.
25. Remove the bolts and the inspection cover.
26. NOTE: Gain access to the nuts by turning the crank dampener counterclockwise.
Remove the four nuts from the torque converter.
27. Remove the oil bypass filter.
28. Remove the five bolts from the transmission.
29. Remove the bolt and position the transmission level indicator tube out of the way.
30. Lower the vehicle.
31. Install the special tool.
32. Support the transmission with a floor jack and a block of wood.
33. Remove the engine from the vehicle.
