Removal and Installation

WARNING: When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that the heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure the protective caps are in place when maintenance is completed. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the starter terminal cover and remove the nut and the solenoid S terminal electrical connection.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

4. Remove the nut and the solenoid B terminal electrical connection.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

5. Remove the nut and the starter battery ground cable from the stud.
- To install, tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).

6. Remove the two bolts, the stud bolt, and the starter motor.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install the starter fasteners finger tight.
- Tighten the upper bolt.
- Tighten the lower fasteners.
