Removal and Installation

WARNING:
- When carrying out maintenance on the starting system, be aware that the heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure the protective caps are in place when the maintenance is complete.
- The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning off the air suspension switch located in the RH kick panel area. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the terminal cover on the starter solenoid.
4. Remove the B-terminal nut and disconnect the wire.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

5. Remove the S-terminal nut and disconnect the wire.
- To install, tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

6. Remove the 2 bolts, the nut and the starter motor.
- Install the nut and the upper and lower starter bolts finger-tight.
- Tighten the upper bolt and nut to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
- Tighten the lower bolt to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
