Pinpoint Test V: The Voice Guidance Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly
Normal Operation
The voice-assisted route guidance is broadcast through the instrument panel speaker. The volume can be adjusted using the settings on the Audio Control Module (ACM). The ACM sends the voice guidance audio signals to the audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) module through a dedicated pair of circuits.
The voice guidance volume can be changed by the customer.
- DTC B1A07:01 (Speaker #7: General Electrical Failure) - sets when a fault is detected in the navigation voice circuits.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Incorrect voice guidance setting
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Audio DSP module
- ACM
PINPOINT TEST V: THE VOICE GUIDANCE IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
V1 CHECK THE VOICE GUIDANCE SETTING
- Adjust the voice volume to approximately 50%. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Set a destination and start the route using the navigation controls. Refer to the Owner's Literature.
- Observe the voice guidance.
- Does the voice guidance operate correctly?
Yes
The concern was caused by an incorrect customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct use of the voice guidance feature.
No
GO to V2.
-------------------------------------------------
V2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL SPEAKER
- Carry out the speaker walk test. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode Audio Control Module (ACM) Self-Diagnostic Mode.
- Does the instrument panel speaker operate correctly?
Yes
GO to V3.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test C. Pinpoint Test C: Poor Quality/Distorted/No Sound From One Or More Speakers (Not All Speakers) - THX(R) Sound
-------------------------------------------------
V3 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL TO THE AUDIO DSP MODULE
NOTICE: This pinpoint test step directs testing circuits using a back-probe method. Use the special back-probe tool specified in the tool list. Do not force test leads or other probes into connectors. Adequate care must be exercised to avoid connector terminal damage while ensuring that good electrical contact is made with the circuit or terminal. Failure to follow these instructions may cause damage to wiring, terminals, or connectors and subsequent electrical faults.
- Operate the audio system in navigation mode.
- While adjusting the voice volume setting up and down (refer to the Owner's Literature), measure the AC voltage by back-probing between the audio DSP module C4326a-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the audio amplifier C4326a-16, circuit RMN07 (VT).
- Is a fluctuating AC voltage present each time the voice volume setting is adjusted?
Yes
GO to V7.
No
GO to V4.
-------------------------------------------------
V4 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: ACM C240a.
- Disconnect: Audio DSP Module C4326a.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the audio DSP module C4326a-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground; and between the audio DSP module C4326a-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to V5.
-------------------------------------------------
V5 CHECK THE NAVIGATION AUDIO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP module C4326a-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and the ACM C240a-2, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side; and between the audio DSP module C4326a-6, circuit VMN07 (GY), harness side and ground.
- Measure the resistance between the audio DSP module C4326a-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and the ACM C240a-14, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side; and between the audio DSP module C4326a-16, circuit RMN07 (VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio DSP module and the ACM, and greater than
10,000 ohms between the audio DSP module and ground?
Yes
GO to V6.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
V6 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION
- Connect: Audio DSP module C4326a.
- Disconnect all the ACM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the ACM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) Audio Control Module (ACM). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
-------------------------------------------------
V7 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO DSP MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect all the audio DSP module connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the audio DSP module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new audio DSP module. REFER to Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module Audio Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Module. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
