Pinpoint Test C: The Left Or Right Exterior Mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM))/Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) LED Is ON

Blind Spot Monitoring

Pinpoint Tests

Pinpoint Test C: The Left Or Right Exterior Mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM))/Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) LED Is Constantly On And A Message In The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Message Center Is Present, But No DTCs Are Recorded

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 136 (Fusion/Milan/MKZ, Fusion Hybrid/Milan Hybrid), Vehicle Emergency Messageing System for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

NOTE: The Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system customer ON/OFF feature in the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is not available on early build hybrid vehicles.

Normal Operation

On each ignition cycle, the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L) run a self diagnostic check during which the exterior mirror Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM))/CTA LEDs illuminate for 3 seconds then turn off indicating the system is operational. The CTA system is enabled when the ignition switch is in the RUN position and the REVERSE (R) gear is selected. For non-hybrid and late build hybrid vehicles, the system can be turned on and off through the message center, which is part of the IPC.

The SOD-R and SOD-L receive a PRNDL gear input and a vehicle speed signal message from the IPC through the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The CTA system, SOD-R and SOD-L send a message through the MS-CAN to the Parking Aid Module (PAM) to signal an audible tone to alert the driver.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- SOD-L
- SOD-R
- Parking Aid Module (PAM)

PINPOINT TEST C: THE LEFT OR RIGHT EXTERIOR MIRROR BLIS(TM)/CTA LED IS CONSTANTLY ON AND A MESSAGE IN THE IPC MESSAGE CENTER IS PRESENT, BUT NO DTCs ARE RECORDED

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
C1 VERIFY THE SOD-L AND SOD-R PASS THE NETWORK TEST

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test .
- Verify that the SOD-L and SOD-R pass the network test.
- Do the SOD-L and SOD-R pass the network test?

Yes
GO to C2.

No
For SOD-L, REFER to Information Bus, The SOD-L Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

For SOD-R, GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: The Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) Does Not Respond To Scan Tool, Cannot Be Configured

-------------------------------------------------
C2 CHECK FOR VEHICLE SPEED SIGNAL DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC CMDTCs .
- Check for correct operation of the speedometer in the IPC.
- Are vehicle speed display faults and DTCs related to vehicle speed present?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems for a list of all DTCs.

No
GO to C3.

-------------------------------------------------
C3 CHECK FOR PRNDL DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC CMDTCs .
- Check for correct operation of the PRNDL in the IPC.
- Are PRNDL display faults and DTCs related to the PRNDL present?

Yes
REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.

No
For a BLIS(TM) fault, GO to Pinpoint Test A. Pinpoint Test A: The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(TM)) Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly Or Poor Performance

For a CTA system fault, GO to C4.

-------------------------------------------------
C4 CHECK FOR PAM DTCs

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: PAM CMDTCs .
- Check DTCs in the PAM.
- Are DTCs present?

Yes
REFER to Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: The Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) System Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly Or Poor Performance and No LED
