Pinpoint Test AX: DTCs B103B and B1111

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 119, Climate Controlled Seats for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2 (PCSM-2) monitors the LH rear seat Thermo-Electric Device (TED) circuits. If a short to ground or voltage on any of these circuits is detected, the DTC(s) will be set.

- DTC B103B (Thermo-Electric Driver Overcurrent Low) - If PCSM-2 outputs to the LH rear seat backrest or cushion TED (circuit pins G, H, J or K at the PCSM-2 connector) or any components within these circuit loops are shorted to ground or a TED resistance of less than 0.9 ohm is sensed, the PCSM-2 will shut down the LH rear seat system and set this DTC.
- DTC B1111 (Driver Thermo-Electric Device Control Overtemperature Fault) - If the PCSM-2 TED driver integrated circuit temperature exceeds 175°C (347°F), the PCSM-2 will shut down the LH rear seat system and set this DTC.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- TED assembly
- PCSM-2

PINPOINT TEST AX: DTCs B103B AND B1111

NOTICE: When taking measurements at Passenger Climate Controlled Seat Module - 2 (PCSM-2) harness connectors, do not insert the electrical probes into the female connector pins. Inserting the probes into connector pins can cause intermittent or open electrical connections after reassembly resulting in Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and system failure. Touching the tip of these connector pins is recommended instead.

AX1 CHECK TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: PCSM-2 C3365A.
- Measure the resistance between PCSM-2 C3365A, harness side and ground using the following chart:








- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
GO to AX2.

No
If the resistance of C3365A-G, circuit CHS39 (GN/BU) and/or C3365A-H, circuit RHS39 (VT/OG) to ground is not greater than 10,000 ohms to ground, GO to AX6.

If the resistance of C3365A-J, circuit CHS40 (GY/VT) and/or C3365A-K, circuit RHS40 (BU/BN) to ground is not greater than 10,000 ohms to ground, GO to AX7.

AX2 CHECK TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between PCSM-2 C3365A, harness side and ground using the following chart:








- Is voltage present on any circuits?

Yes
If voltage is present at C3365A-G and/or C3365A-H, GO to AX8.

If voltage is present at C3365A-J and/or C3365A-K, GO to AX9.

No
GO to AX3.

AX3 CHECK THE RESISTANCE OF THE TED AND WIRING

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between:
- PCSM-2 C3365A-G, circuit CHS39 (GN/BU), harness side and PCSM-2 C3365A-H, circuit RHS39 (VT/OG), harness side.
- PCSM-2 C3365A-J, circuit CHS40 (GY/VT), harness side and C3365A-K, circuit RHS40 (BU/BN), harness side.




- Are the resistances between 0.9 and 10 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCSM-2. REFER to Passenger Climate - Controlled Seat Module (PCSM-2) Passenger Climate - Controlled Seat Module (PCSM-2). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
If the resistance between PCSM-2 C3365A-G and C3365A-H is not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, GO to AX5.

If the resistance between PCSM-2 C3365A-J and C3365A-K is not between 0.9 and 10 ohms, GO to AX4.

AX4 CHECK BACKREST TED RESISTANCE

- Disconnect: Backrest TED C3362.
- Measure the resistance between backrest TED C3362 pin 1 and pin 3, component side.




- Is the resistance between 0.9 and 10 ohms?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new backrest TED. REFER to Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

AX5 CHECK CUSHION TED RESISTANCE

- Disconnect: Cushion TED C3358.
- Measure the resistance between cushion TED C3358 pin 1 and pin 3, component side.




- Is the resistance between 0.9 and 10 ohms?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new cushion TED. REFER to Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

AX6 CHECK CUSHION TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: Cushion TED C3358.
- Measure the resistance between:
- PCSM-2 C3365A-G, circuit CHS39 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.
- PCSM-2 C3365A-H, circuit RHS39 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.




- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new cushion TED. REFER to Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

AX7 CHECK BACKREST TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Disconnect: Backrest TED C3362.
- Measure the resistance between:
- PCSM-2 C3365A-J, circuit CHS40 (GY/VT), harness side and ground.
- PCSM-2 C3365A-K, circuit RHS40 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.




- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new backrest TED. REFER to Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

AX8 CHECK CUSHION TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Cushion TED C3358.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between:
- PCSM-2 C3365A-G, circuit CHS39 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.
- PCSM-2 C3365A-H, circuit RHS39 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.




- Is voltage present on either circuit?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new cushion TED. REFER to Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Cushion Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

AX9 CHECK BACKREST TED CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: Backrest TED C3362.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between:
- PCSM-2 C3365A-J, circuit CHS40 (GY/VT), harness side and ground.
- PCSM-2 C3365A-K, circuit RHS40 (BU/BN), harness side and ground.




- Is voltage present on either circuit?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit(s). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new backrest TED. REFER to Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row Seat Backrest Thermo-Electric Device - Second Row. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
