EGR Valve: Testing and Inspection

1. Start and operate engine until normal operating temperature is obtained, then turn ignition switch to OFF position and remove air cleaner.
2. Disconnect and plug hoses from idle compensator, thermosensor and reed valves. Disconnect and plug vacuum sensing line from EGR valve.
3. Connect a suitable hand held vacuum pump onto EGR valve.
4. Start and operate engine at idle.
5. Apply vacuum to EGR valve. If engine idles rough or stops when applied vacuum exceeds approximately 1.97 inches Hg vacuum, EGR valve is operating properly. If not, clean or replace EGR valve as necessary
