Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 30 Checking evaporative line using ``U'' tube pressure gauge:

1986 RX-7

1. Disconnect ventilation hose from canister.
2. Using a suitable ``U'' tube pressure gauge, Fig. 30, connect disconnected hose to ``U'' tube pressure gauge.
3. Gradually apply low pressure compressed air into ``U'' tube so that difference of water level is 13.5-14.5 inches.
4. Block hose and let set for 5 minutes.
5. If water level drops more than 1 inch, check for leaking or loose evaporative line, leaking fuel tank, leaking or loose fuel line, or leaking filler cap. Repair or replace as necessary.
