Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Fig. 51 Testing throttle sensor.:

1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached, then stop engine.
2. Disconnect electrical connector from throttle sensor.
3. Measure resistance between between connector terminals a and c, Fig. 51.
4. Resistance should measure 3.5---6.4K ohms at 68°F. Replace sensor if resistance is not within specifications.
5. Measure resistance between terminals b and c while slowly opening and closing the throttle lever.
6. Resistance should measure approximately 1.2K ohms with throttle closed and approximately 4.9K ohms with throttle open. If resistance is not as specified, remove carburetor and turn adjusting screw as necessary to adjust throttle sensor setting.
