Inspection of Fail Safe Function

Fig. 25 Location of ignition service connector:

1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
2. Connect a tachometer and a timing light to the engine.
3. Run engine at idle and check that the ignition timing is within specification.

IGNITION TIMING: 11°- 13° BTDC

4. Disconnect the service connector Fig. 25.

5. Disconnect the knock sensor connector and check that the ignition timing retards Fig. 26.
6. Reconnect the knock sensor connector and confirm that the ignition timing returns to specification.
