Knock Sensor: Description and Operation

Knock Control System:

If detonation or excessive turbo boost pressure occur, the Knock Control System functions to retard timing until pinging is eliminated. This system consists of a knock sensor, turbo pressure sensor, knock control unit, ignition coil, distributor and ECU. When knock or excessive boost pressure occur, the condition is detected by the knock control unit and relayed to the ECU. The ECU acts to retard timing until knock is eliminated.
