Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

Throttle Sensor:





1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the throttle sensor.
2. Remove the throttle sensor mounting screws and remove the sensor from the vehicle.
3. Install the throttle sensor and replace the mounting screws.
4. Disconnect the connector from the throttle sensor.

5. Connect the throttle sensor adjustment tool (Mazda Part# 49 9200 165) to the throttle sensor using the adapter (Mazda Part# 49 9200 166). If the special tool or adapter are not available, use an ohmmeter.

Thickness Gauge Inserted Behind Stop Screw:





6. Insert a 0.5 mm (0.020 in) thickness gauge between the throttle stop screw and the stop lever.
7. Loosen the screws and rotate the sensor about 30°, then rotate the sensor back until the tool indicates continuity. Tighten the mounting screws.
8. Insert a 0.7 mm (0.027 in) thickness gauge between the throttle stop screw and stop lever and check that the tool does not indicate continuity. If it does, repeat steps 3 through 5.
9. Open the throttle plates a few times and recheck the adjustment of the throttle sensor.
