EGR Valve Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

VOLTAGE INSPECTION

1. Remove the rubber boot from the connector.

Vacuum Pump Connection:

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR control valve and connect the vacuum pump.
3. Turn the ignition switch on.

EGR Position Sensor Inspection:

4. Check the voltage of each terminal in the conditions shown in the table.

Reference Chart:

5. If not correct at terminals "B" and "C", check the wiring harness and terminals "1D", "1F", and "1G" of the engine control unit.
6. If not correct at terminal "A", check the resistance of the sensor, then the wiring harness and engine control unit.
7. Reinstall the rubber boot.

RESISTANCE INSPECTION

1. Disconnect the EGR position sensor connector.
2. Remove the rubber boot from the connector.

Checking EGR Position Sensor Resistance:

3. Using an ohmmeter, check the resistance between the terminals as shown when applying 0-150 mmHg (0-5.9 inHg) vacuum to the EGR control valve, using a vacuum pump.

TERMINAL RESISTANCE

A - B 0.7-6.0 KOhm
A - C 5.5-0 KOhm
B - C 5 KOhm
