1. Remove vacuum diaphragm rod and O-ring from transmission body.
2. Measure N dimension, Fig. 4, using measuring tool No. 49G032355 or equivalent and a scale.
3. Select proper diaphragm rod, Fig. 5. Excessive shift shock and improper shifting often indicate a vacuum diaphragm malfunction. Remove approximately 1 quart of transmission fluid before removing vacuum diaphragm.
