Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Barometric Pressure Sensor: Testing and Inspection

Testing Atmospheric Pressure Sensor:

NOTE: The vacuum sensor and atmospheric pressure sensor are two identical components that are tested in the same manner. Each provides the ECU with different input information. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION.

1. Remove left side kick panel.
2. Remove rubber cap and connect a vacuum pump to sensor port.
3. Turn ignition switch "ON."
4. Probe harness with voltmeter leads without disconnecting electrical plug from sensor.

Atmospheric Pressure Sensor:

4. Check voltage between each terminal and ground while applying and releasing approximately 0-508 mmHg (0-20 inHg) vacuum. Compare results to the image chart. Terminals "A," "B" and "C" should remain stable while terminal "D" should vary within the specified range.

Reference Chart:

5. If voltage at terminals "A," "B," or "C" is not correct, check wiring harness.
6. If voltage at terminals "A," "B," and "C" is okay but terminal "D" is wrong, replace atmospheric pressure sensor.

Atmospheric pressure input voltage to ECU terminal 1H should be approximately 4V at sea level.
