1.6 L DOHC
1. Inspect each valve spring for cracks or damage.











2. Measure the free length and out of square. Replace the valve spring if necessary.






Valve Spring
1.8 L DOHC
1. Inspect the valve springs for cracks and damage.











2. Check the free length. If not within specification, check the following pressure.
Free length
Standard: 46.92 mm (1.847 in)
Minimum length:
38.7 mm (1.524 in) with a set load of
232-264 N.m (23.75-26.88 m-kg, 52-59 ft-lb)
3. Measure spring pressure when the spring length is compressed to 35.5 mm (1.398 in). Replace if necessary.
4. Check the out-of-square of the springs. Replace as necessary.
Out-of-square: 1.63 mm (0.064 in)
