Idle Speed

PREPARATION

Diagnosis Connector:

1. Warm engine to operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads "OFF."
3. If using Mazda System Selector (SST #49 B019 9A0), connect to diagnosis connector. Set switch "A" to position "1" and test switch to "SELF-TEST" position.
4. Connect tachometer.

NOTE: If Mazda SST is not used, install a jumper wire between diagnosis connector "TEN" and "GND" terminals.

ADJUSTMENT

Idle Speed Adjustment:

1. After preparation, check idle speed for these specifications:

750 ± 50 rpm

NOTE: When parking brake is not applied, idle speed for A/T Canadian model is approximately 800 rpm. On all models, check idle speed when electric cooling fan is not operating.

2. If idle speed is not within specification, correct with air adjust screw.
3. Following adjustment, disconnect SST or remove jumper wire.
