Evaporative Emissions System: Testing and Inspection

OPERATION CHECK

EVAP System Operation Check:

1. Warm engine to operating temperature and run at idle.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose from solenoid valve and plug as shown. Verify no vacuum is felt at valve.
3. Input a load signal to PCME:

M/T: Unplug park/neutral switch.
A/T: Place vehicle on chassis dyno and shift to "D" range.

4. Connect tachometer and raise engine speed to 1000 rpm. Verify that vacuum is felt at valve after approximately 2 seconds.

SOLENOID VALVE CHECK

Purge Control Solenoid Testing:

1. Disconnect hoses, unplug connector, and remove valve. Blow into nipple A and verify no air flows through valve.
2. Apply battery voltage across solenoid connectors. Verify air flows through valve from A to B.
3. If not as specified, replace solenoid valve.
