Data Link Connector: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Used to activate and access on-board diagnostic information. PCME trouble codes can be obtained via the connector with Mazda SST #49 H018 9A1, SST #DT-S1000, or aftermarket "Scan" tool configured to properly interface with Mazda electronics. Connector used when checking and setting idle speed and ignition timing.

On vehicles so equipped, connector also provides access to self-diagnostics for EC-AT (PCMT), fuel injection system, A/C, cruise control system, fuel pump check, and engine speed output.

LOCATION
Left side engine compartment, near air cleaner housing.

OPERATION
Without special tools, installing a jumper wire between terminals "TEN" and "GND" causes malfunction indicator light (MIL) on dash to flash any trouble codes stored in PCME memory.
