EGR Valve Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

VOLTAGE INSPECTION

Vacuum Pump Connection:

1. Remove rubber boot from connector.
2. Disconnect vacuum hose from EGR control valve and connect vacuum pump.
3. Turn ignition switch "ON."

EGR Position Sensor Inspection:

4. Check voltage of each terminal under conditions shown on table.

Reference Chart:

5. If voltage is incorrect at terminals "B" and "C," check wiring harness and terminals 1D, 1F and 1G of ECU.
6. If incorrect at terminal "A," check sensor resistance and then wiring harness and ECU.
7. Reinstall rubber boot.

RESISTANCE INSPECTION

Checking EGR Position Sensor Resistance:

1. Disconnect EGR position sensor connector.
2. Remove rubber boot from connector.
3. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between terminals as shown when applying 0 - 5.9 in.Hg (0 - 150 mmHg) vacuum to EGR control valve:

TERMINAL RESISTANCE (K ohms)

A - B 0.7 - 6.0
A - C 5.5 - 0
B - C 5
