Ignition Control Module: Testing and Inspection

Igniter Testing:






NOTE: This test requires Mazda Special Service Tools (SST) or aftermarket equivalents.

1. Disconnect igniter connector. Do not ground power connector terminal (Blue: 1-pin) or wiper 20A fuse will be blown.
2. Connect adapter (SST #49 N018 001) between igniter and wiring harness.
3. Attach igniter checker (SST #49 F018 002) to adapter harness.
4. Connect igniter checker power leads to power connector terminal (Blue: 1-pin) and ground.
5. Connect a voltmeter between igniter checker (brown wire) and a ground
6. Turn ignition switch "ON." Verify approximately 12V at brown wire terminal. If voltage is incorrect, check related wiring.
7. While observing voltmeter, push igniter checker switch SW2. Do not activate SW2 for more than one second.
8. Check that voltmeter indicates approximately 8V.
9. If not as specified, replace igniter.
10. Disconnect voltmeter from brown wire and connect it to gray wire.
11. Repeat steps 5 through 9.
