DESCRIPTION
Engine speed continues at fast idle after warm-up.

1. Is the pass diagnostic trouble code displayed during Key On Engine Off inspection and Key On Engine Running inspection?

Yes - Pass diagnostic trouble code displayed. Go to next step.
No - Diagnostic trouble code no. displayed or no diagnostic trouble codes displayed Check for cause.

2. Disconnect the in-line SPOUT connector. Start the engine. Is base timing within specification at idle?

Base timing: BTDC 10 ± 2°

Yes - Go to next step
No - Adjust base timing
If not adjustable, check as follows:
- Camshaft Position Sensor
- Timing belt
- Crankshaft Position Sensor

3. Is there air leakage felt or heard at intake air system components while racing engine to higher speed?

Yes - Repair or replace parts as necessary
No - Go to next step

4. Verify test results. If OK, return to diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms. Symptom Index
