Vehicle Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the Vehicle Speed Sensor on the transfer case.
- Disconnect the speedometer cable from the Vehicle Speed Sensor.
- Remove the retaining bolt.
- Remove the Vehicle Speed Sensor.
- Remove the speedometer gear retainer.
- Remove the driven gear.

Servicing the Vehicle Speed Sensor:

REPLACEMENT
- Install a new driven gear on a new Vehicle Speed Sensor.
- Secure the speedometer driven gear with the retainer.
- Install the speedometer cable into the new Vehicle Speed Sensor.
- Install the new Vehicle Speed Sensor in the transfer case.
- Tighten the retaining bolt.

Tightening torque: 2.5 N.m (22 in.lb.)

- Connect the Vehicle Speed Sensor electrical connector.
- Lower the vehicle.
