Data Link Connector: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Used to activate and access on-board diagnostic information. PCME trouble codes can be obtained with Mazda SST #49 H018 9A1 or aftermarket "Scan" tool configured to properly interface with Mazda electronics. Without these tools, installing a jumper wire between terminals "TEN" and "GND" causes the malfunction indicator light (MIL) to flash trouble codes stored in PCME memory. Base timing and idle speed adjustments are also made with SST or by jumpering "TEN" and "GND" terminals.

Connector also provides access for checking engine rpm and testing fuel pump operation.
