Piston: Testing and Inspection
1. Check piston for cracking, breaking, heat damage or wear. Replace piston as required. Pistons are available in 0.010 inch and 0.020 inch oversize.2. Check piston rings for excessive wear and damage. Replace rings as required.
3. Measure clearance between piston ring grooves and piston ring using a suitable feeler gauge. If clearance exceeds 0.006 inch, replace piston or rings as required.
4. Install piston ring into cylinder bore by hand and use piston to push it to bottom of ring travel. Using a suitable feeler gauge, measure piston ring end gap clearance. If end gap is more than 0.039 inch, replace piston ring.
