Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection
FLUID LEVEL1. Park vehicle on level ground.
2. Start engine and allow transaxle to reach normal operating temperature. (Between 60 - 70°C (140 - 158°F)
3. With engine idling and parking brake applied, move selector lever through all ranges, then return to P position.
4. With engine idling, remove dipstick and check automatic transaxle fluid (ATF) level. Fluid level should be between F and L marks.
5. Add suitable automatic transaxle fluid as necessary to bring level within specifications.
ATF type: Dexron (R) II or M-III
FLUID CONDITION
Check the ATF for the following conditions:
1. If ATF is muddy, varnished, or has tiny black particles visible in the fluid, it may indicate damaged friction material. (Burned drive plates).
2. If ATF smells strange or unusually offensive.
NOTE: If any of the above conditions exist, the transaxle may need disassembly for further inspection and repairs.
