EGR Valve Position Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Provides the powertrain control module engine (PCME) with a voltage signal that coresponds with pintle shaft movement in the EGR control valve. This allows the PCME to monitor the operation of the EGR control system so it (the PCME) can adjust its output signals for improved engine performance and optimum emissions reductions.

CONSTRUCTION
Sensor is a variable resistor that mounts directly on the EGR control valve.

OPERATION
The EGR function sensor affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- EGR control solenoid valves (EGR operation)
- Self-diagnosis checker (diagnostic trouble codes)
