Power Steering Pressure Switch: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Signals powertrain control module engine (PCME) when power steering system pressure increases in conjunction with turning the steering wheel. Enables the PCME to compensate for increased engine load from the power steering system.

OPERATION
Switch is ON (shows continuity) when steering wheel is turned and system pressure increases to provide assist.

The steering pressure sensor affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Fuel injection quantity
- Idle air control valve (idle speed)
- A/C relay (A/C cut-off control system)
