Spark Plug: Service and Repair

SPARK PLUG
Removal
- Remove the High-Tension Leads.

View: Removing Leads From Spark Plugs:

CAUTION: When the High-Tension Lead is to be pulled off, be sure to pull on the boot itself, not the lead.

NOTE: If the original spark plugs are to be re-installed, they MUST be installed in the same cylinder location from which they were removed. Make a note of which cylinder each spark plug comes from. This will aid with the re-installation of original spark plugs.

- Remove the spark plugs with a plug socket.

Install Spark Plug Socket Squarely Over Spark Plugs:

CAUTION: Be sure the socket fits squarely over the spark plug.

Installation
- Verify spark plug gap is correct.

Electrode Gap: 1.4 mm (0.054 in.)

- Adjust as necessary.
- Apply anti-seize compound or molybdenum-based lubricant to the spark plug threads.
- Tighten the spark plug to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 14-20 Nm (10-14 ft.lb.)

- Re-install High-Tension Leads on to the spark plugs.

NOTE: Coat the entire interior surface of the High-Tension Lead boot with a silicone dielectric compound or equivalent.
