Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Measures temperature of intake air and provides a signal to the PCME. The signal is used in PCME calculations for fuel injection quantity, idle speed control, purge control, and fuel pressure control.

LOCATION
Integral with the airflow sensor.

OPERATION
Resistance through sensor varies with temperature. Sensor resistance is checked at airflow meter terminals "E2" and "THAa":

TEMPERATURE / RESISTANCE

-4°F (-20°C) / 13.6 - 18.4 K ohms
68°F (20°C) / 2.2 - 2.7 K ohms
140°F (60°C) / 493 - 667 ohms
