Electrical Precautions


STATIC DISCHARGE
- Discharge static electrical charges before handling electronic parts by touching ground or maintaining a ground connection to a bare skin area like the wrist.
- Never touch engine or transmission control module connector pins, integrated circuit connector pins, or soldered components on any circuit board.

TESTING
- When measuring voltage at any control module harness connector, disconnect harness connector with ignition "OFF," then turn ignition "ON" as necessary.
- To prevent deforming control module harness connectors, do not probe terminals directly. Instead, insert a pin from harness side and perform measurements through pin, or use the appropriate break out box if applicable.

CONTROL MODULE DAMAGE
- Do not try to disassemble any control module.
- Before performing electrical welding (example: spot welding), disconnect battery, climate control, injection, cruise control, engine/transmission control modules and radio.
- If temperatures may exceed 80°C (176°F), (example: infra-red spray booth), remove electronic control units.
- Avoid getting water on fuel and engine control system components.
- Never apply battery power to a component unless directed to do so in a test procedure.

CAUTION: Do not check a control module using a test light with a bulb rated over 3.4 Watts, it may damage the module.
