Ignition Coil: Service and Repair

REMOVAL / INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove in the order shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.




1. Ignition coil




Removal note
1. Disconnect the high-tension leads from the ignition coils by squeezing the locking tabs on the lead by hand. Use a twisting and pulling motion to free the boot from terminal. Do not pull on the wire.
2. Disconnect the harness connector from the ignition coil.
3. Remove the screws and remove coil.

Installation note
1. Mount the ignition coil to its bracket and install screws.

Tightening torque: 5-7 N-m (44-66 in-lb)

2. Reconnect engine harness electrical connector to the ignition coil.
3. Insert each lead on the proper terminal of the ignition coil. Make sure that the coil boots are fully seated and both locking tabs are engaged.




Note: The terminals are identified on the ignition coils. Install wires as shown in the illustration. The 2.3L firing order is 1-3-4-2 for both ignition coil-assemblies.
