Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION
1. Connect SST (104 pin breakout box) to the PCM and vehicle harnesses.
2. Crank the engine and measure voltage between Pin 21 and Pin 22 at breakout box.
3. Verify that the AC voltage is greater than 0.4 volt.
4. If voltage is not as specified, go to procedure 5. If voltage is OK, crankshaft position sensor is OK.
5. Key OFF and disconnect the PCM from the breakout box.
6. Crank the engine and verify that the AC voltage is greater than 0.4 volt between Pin 21 and Pin 22.
7. If voltage is not as specified, go to procedure 6. If voltage is OK, replace PCM.
8. key off and measure resistance between Pin 21 and Pin 22 at breakout box.

Specification: 3OO-8OO Ohms

9. If resistance is not as specified, check the wiring harness. If the wiring harness is OK, replace the CKP sensor. If the resistance is OK, go to procedure 10.
10. Check trigger wheel and CkP sensor for damage.
11. If CKP sensor and trigger wheel is OK, replace CKP sensor. If any damage are found, repair or replace damaged posts.
