Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Testing and Inspection

Inspection/Operation
1. Verify that the starter operates with the ignition switch at the START position and the selector lever in P and N position only, and that it does not operate in any other position.
2. Verify that the back-up lights illuminate when shifted to R position with the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Check transmission range switch continuity if operation is not as specified.

Inspection/Continuity
1. On level ground, jack up the vehicle and support it evenly on safety stands.
2. Disconnect the control linkage from the manual shaft.
3. Disconnect the transmission range switch connector.




4. Check continuity of the terminals.




5. If not correct, adjust the transmission range switch.
6. If correct, check or adjust the selector lever and control linkage.
