Removal/Installation

1. Release fuel system pressure as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. On models with audio anti-theft system, obtain radio deactivation code prior to disconnecting battery ground cable, then deactivate system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable, drain engine coolant, then remove engine undercover.
4. On 1995-96 models with manual transmission, remove transmission as outlined in Clutch.
5. On 1995-96 models with automatic transmission, remove transmission as outlined in Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles.
6. Remove air cleaner assembly, Fig. 2 and 3.

7. Disconnect accelerator cable, then remove upper and lower radiator hoses.
8. On 1995-96 models with automatic transmission, disconnect oil cooler lines, cap hoses and fittings.
9. Remove coolant reservoir hose, then disconnect coolant fan electrical connector.
10. Remove cooling fan and radiator assembly as outlined under Radiator.
11. Remove power steering, A/C and alternator drive belts.
12. Remove, without disconnecting lines, power steering pump and A/C compressor (if equipped), then position aside.
13. Disconnect engine harness electrical connectors as shown in Fig. 4 and 5.

14. Disconnect vacuum, fuel and heater hoses as shown in Fig. 6. When removing fuel hoses, cover hoses with a shop towel to prevent fuel from spraying. Cap and plug all opened lines and fittings.

15. On 1993-94 models, disconnect front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold, Fig. 7, then proceed as follows:

a. Remove clutch release cylinder, then disconnect transmission electrical harness.
b. Remove shift knob and power plant frame.
c. Disconnect propeller shaft and speedometer cable from transmission, then remove engine mount nut.
d. Using a suitable engine lifting device, remove engine and transmission as a unit from vehicle.
e. Remove starter, then the transmission assembly from engine.

16. On 1995-96 models, remove clutch release cylinder, disconnect motor mounts, then using a suitable engine lifting device, remove engine from vehicle.
17. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten bolts to specifications.
