Ignition Lock: Service and Repair






DISASSEMBLY
1. Follow removal steps outlined in the illustration, noting the following steps.






2. Use a chisel and a hammer to make a groove in the heads of the steering lock mounting bolts.
3. Remove the bolts.
4. Remove the steering lock assembly.

INSPECTION
Note the following and replace the steering shaft assembly if necessary.






1. Column bushing damage
2. Column bearing damage






3. Steering shaft length should be 557.5 mm (21.95 inch).

ASSEMBLY
1. Follow removal steps in reverse order in the illustration, noting the following.






2. Install the steering lock assembly on the jacket.
3. Verify that the lock operates correctly.
4. Install new steering lock mounting bolts.
5. Tighten the bolts until the heads break off.
