Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR TESTING

USING THE SST (104 PIN BREAKOUT BOX)
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.

SST (104 Pin Breakout Box):

2. Connect the Special Service Tools (SST)s to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
3. Measure the voltage at PCM terminals 35 and 60.

4. If not as specified inspect the following.
- Fuel system
- On-board diagnostic system
- Intake-air system
5. If all the systems are OK, replace the heated oxygen sensor.

USING THE SST (NGS)

NGS:

1. Connect the SSTs New Generation Star (NGS) tester to the data link connector-2.

2. Select the "PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD" function of the NGS.
3. Select the heated oxygen sensor (front), (rear) on the NGS. The NGS measures and shows the voltage.

4. If not as specified, inspect the following.
- Fuel system
- On-board diagnostic system
- Intake-air system

5. If all the systems are OK, replace the heated oxygen sensor.

HEATER TESTING
1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

HO2S Connectors:

2. Measure the resistance between heated oxygen sensor terminals C and D by using an ohmmeter.

Specification: Approx. 6 Ohms @ 20°C (68°F)

3. If not as specified, replace the heated oxygen sensor.
