Flow Chart No. 1: Windshield Washer Does Not Operate

Flow Chart No. - 1 Symptom - Windshield washer does not operate.

Step 1
Preliminary checks.
1. Check fuses for continuity; check connections for clean, tight fit; check for loose or damaged wires.




2. Do components and wiring check OK?

Step 2
On-demand self test.
1. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 49 T088 0A0 to data link connector (DLC). Retrieve continuous DTCs. Perform on-demand self test.




2. Are any diagnostic codes present?

Step 3
Check LB/O circuit between washer switch and GEM.




1. Disconnect multi-function switch.
2. Read PID WASH-SW on NGS Tester.
3. Turn ignition switch on.




4. Ground LB/O at multi-function switch.




5. Does NGS Tester indicate washer switch is on?

Step 4
Check multi-function switch.
1. With key ON rotate multi-function switch and observe proper function of each multi-function switch position.




2. Does switch check OK?

Step 5
Check P/Y circuit between multi-function switch and GEM.
1. Check for short to ground on P/Y wire.




2. Is the circuit OK?

Step 6
Check W/B circuit.




1. Check for battery voltage on W/B power teed to wash pump relay contact.




2. Is battery voltage present?

Step
Check B/W circuit for battery voltage.




1. Disconnect windshield washer pump, then run wiper control functional test with NGS Tester 49 T088 0A0.




2. Energize washer pump relay, then check for battery voltage on B/W.




3. Is battery voltage present?

Step 8
Check voltage relay.




1. Energize washer pump relay.
2. Measure voltage on B/W wire between washer pump relay and windshield washer pump.




3. Is battery voltage present?

Step 9
Check pump motor ground (B).
1. Check for open in circuit between pump motor and ground.




2. Is circuit OK?

Step 10
Check B/LG circuit in power feed to Fuse 12 (10A).
1. Check for ground short in B/LG power feed to Fuse 12 (10A).




2. Is circuit OK?

Step 11
Check B/W circuit between washer pump relay and windshield washer pump for ground short.
1. Check for ground short in B/W between washer pump relay and windshield washer pump.




2. Is circuit OK?

Step 12
Check T/R circuit between washer pump relay and GEM for ground short.




1. Remove GEM connector T221,then turn key ON.




2. Test T/R wire between washer and pump relay and GEM for battery voltage.




3. Is battery voltage present?

Step 13
Functional test.

NOTE
^ Some abnormal drive symptoms may occur after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. The vehicle may have to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy.




1. Reconnect battery ground cable.
2. Connect NGS Tester 49 T088 0A0 to data link connector (DLC).
3. Run wiper control functional test.
4. Energize washer pump relay.




5. Does windshield washer pump work?
