Air Bag Systems: Service and Repair: General Procedures

Before Servicing
1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for more than one minute to allow the backup power supply to deplete its stored power.
3. Remove the column cover.

4. Disconnect the clock spring connector.
5. Remove the glove compartment cover.

6. Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connector.

After Servicing
1. Connect the passenger-side air bag module connector.
2. Reinstall the glove compartment cover.
3. Connect the clock spring connector.
4. Reinstall the column cover.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Air Bag System General Procedure:




7. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approximately 6 seconds and then goes off.
8. If the air bag system warning light remains on, off, or repeats flashing after servicing, there are malfunctions in the system. Troubleshoot the system.
